“Welcome to LupusLighthouse, Your Beacon in the Storm.”

Welcome to LupusLighthouse, your guiding light in the journey with Lupus. Our mission is to provide up-to-date information, resources, and support for those with Lupus and their loved ones.

I was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 19, and my life has been nothing but waves ever since. A lot of tears, prayers, hope, and anger along the way… My kids were the most important thing to me when the storm began; nothing was more important than living for them. So, after yelling and crying that life wasn’t fair and asking why me? I looked at my daughter, and all I knew was I would fight for another day with her and then do it all over again.

Every day, every good or bad, I fight. It took me a lot of time and research to understand Lupus and how I can help keep it from flaring up. The thing I hated the most while doing all this research was that there are many things you can do to help it but nothing to cure it. You would think that would be the most challenging part, but that’s not what it is for me. It’s the fact that no matter how hard you try, sometimes your Lupus does what the hell it wants to anyway. To not have control over your own body is God awful, and anyone who lives with a disease or something wrong knows precisely what I’m talking about. But life is unfair, healthy, or not, good and bad things happen to everyone; it’s called living. But it doesn’t hurt to have help along the way and have someone who understands what is happening to you. This site is to help people with lupus or who know someone with lupus, and even though you can never stop the waves, you can try to calm them.

What is Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect many different parts of the body, including the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood cells, and brain. In people with Lupus, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, causing inflammation and damage.

There are several types of Lupus, but the most common is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). SLE can range from mild to severe, and its symptoms can come and go. Common systems include fatigue, joint pain, skin rashes, and fevers. More severe cases can lead to complications such as kidney damage, heart disease, and neurological problems.

The exact cause of lupus is unknown, but it believed to be a combination of genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors. It’s more common in women, particularly women of childbearing age, and is more prevalent among certain ethic groups.

Diagnosis of lupus can be challenging because it can mimic other diseases. It is diagnosed through a combination of different things, and it could take some time to get there.

While there is currently no cure for lupus, treatments are available to help manage symptoms along the way. Treatments typically involve medications and lifestyle changes to manage symptoms.
